Description

This piece was conceived as truly a "multi-layered" symbol of restoration. The three layers (birch, oak, and padouk) represent the past—with all life's memories, the present—a time of learning and preparation, and the future—a time of hope and dreams. The birch (past) was a beautiful plank actually recovered from a damaged home in the 1998 Saint Peter, Minnesota tornado. Oak (present) is a very strong wood, imbued with wonderful grain and construction qualities and is foundational for the padouk layer (future). The padouk pieces demonstrate movement in a deep sunrise red, evoking the promise of restoration. The piece may be displayed in either a vertical or horizonal posture.
