Last October, a young man contacted me about the possibility of building a piece as a wedding gift for his wife-to-be. We talked at length about general design characteristics, size, lumber choice, shape, function, finish, and special “accents.” This piece was a joy to build – for a very special young couple!
The final decisions resulted in a piece that is 24”W x 28”D x 43”H. The piece is built entirely in cherry, with ebonized pulls and an ebonized band around the apron of the leg scaffolding. The drawer fronts are all 1/4” maple burl veneer. The finish is thirteen coats of tung oil, save for the inside faces of the drawers, which were left sanded to #400 only.
