Figured Cherry Sideboard

Several months ago, a client contacted me via my website to inquire as to my interest in designing and building of a sideboard for her. Together, we had many conversations, including a visit to my studio and showroom to discuss all the possibilities regarding lumber choice, the macro and micro issues of design, finish, etc. Now, I have officially started to build the project.

It is to be in figured American cherry, with ebonized and ebony accents. (See the computer-generated image.)

I expect the entire project to require six weeks to two months of building time. Look for forthcoming updates!

I have been working on the sideboard for about a month—and is the case with all “large projects”—this piece is “time precious.” Nevertheless, I have been able to complete the carcase frame and panels. This week, I am building the drawers, and gluing up the door fronts and shelving.

The client asked that if possible, she would like me to find figured cherry for the top. The good news is that my “go to” supplier (Brian at Logs to Lumber), had numerous curly cherry planks, which supplied ample figured planking for the top, back, ends, drawer fronts, and feet. 🙂

The sideboard has arrived at its new home!
