Whiskey Cabinet

A Whiskey Cabinet is a generic term, used to describe a somewhat small and shallow wall cabinet, used to store special “adult beverages and glassware. However, such a cabinet can also be used for storing small and special possessions.

This whiskey cabinet has dimensions of 12.5″W x 28″H x 5.5″D. It is made from padauk and ebony, and is finished in four coats of Osmo Polyx hard wax oil. It is easily mounted via the use of a French cleat.

Padauk is a equatorial lumber, one which when milled, has a distinctive orange or red color.

Once the lumber is milled for flatness, thickness, and to proper length, the next step is to edge-glue the pieces, to make the panels for the cabinet (top, bottom, back, front, sides.

Here are the panels, glued, sanded, shaped, and cut to the proper size.

I wanted to give the surfaces of the cabinet a textured look, so I scallopped the surface, using a special cutting wheel in association with an angle grinder.

I have always loved the visual drama of red and black. So – I employed ebony for a door latch on the right side of the cabinet. The contraxt of ebony with padauk is really quite compelling.

I hope you like the look! 🙂
